Book Review: Infiltration by Dr. Taylor Marshall

As of this writing, the Amazon Synod is in full swing. The division in the Church seems to be growing ever sharper. There are those who are closing their eyes to the errors coming from the Vatican out of a desire to remain faithful. They do not want to see that there is anything wrong, and yet, it is undeniable with the sex-scandals that seem to be never-ending (challenging the faith of many); confusion and ambiguity seem to reign. Many simply want clarity; they want to understand what's going on, how we got here, what the Church actually teaches, and how to clean up this mess.

Dr. Taylor Marshall's Infiltration: The Plot to Destroy the Church from Within both details the narrative of how we got here and offers an antidote to the current crisis. And despite what can be heartbreaking, sickening, angering, or whatever adjective you want to use, he reminds us that there is hope, that Christ's promise that the gates of hell will never prevail is trustworthy and that the Immaculate Heart of Mary will triumph in the end.

While Dr. Marshall is a well-established author, philosopher, theologian, and Thomist, I was introduced to his work only relatively recently on a recommendation of his Youtube channel and podcast with Timothy Gordon. The more I watch, the more I am convinced that he is a faithful, honest, sober Catholic man who has a deep desire for the salvation of souls and fidelity to the Deposit of Faith.

One of the more controversial chapters in the book deals with the pontificate of John Paul II. I admit that before reading this I was one of the many who was a wholehearted fan. There are many faithful Catholics who have a devotion to him. Some are tempted to believe that anyone who criticizes JPII as Dr. Marshall does in this book is anathema and is to be rejected out of hand. I encourage them to take a step back and listen to the legitimate questions there are about his pontificate, questions that Dr. Marshall treats with the utmost sobriety and charity to both the pontiff and those who support him.

All-in-all, Infiltration is a must-read for anyone who is seeking clarity about the current situation in the Church and guidance in the solution. It is thoroughly researched and written simply and clearly enough for anyone to understand, no matter how hard the truths presented are to accept. Yet accept them we must. Further, we must never lose hope as we rely on the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary. We must find the courage to fight for the Church and her Tradition, and this book is a necessary resource in this battle against the smoke of Satan.
